In our age of conversion to digital technologies, the roles of media change and demand a re-thinking of their traditional constellations. Especially the changes in archival techniques for storage and access are pressing for theoretical responses. The course aims to development a capacity for a theoretical and historical analysis of technical media as interfaces to the world, with a focus on the emergence of the alphabet, the cinema and digital techniques.

The course is given in collaboration between Cinema Studies and Literature at Stockholm University, and proceeds through a series of lectures with seminars and a student workshop, and a series of screenings of films and digital productions.
